On August 14, 1947, the state of Missouri issued a charter for Alpha delta Kappa, International Honorary Sorority for Women Educators. Its four founders were Marian Southall, Marie Neal, Hattie Poppino, and Agnes Shipman. International Headquarters are located in Kansas City, Missouri.

The five-fold purposes of alpha Delta Kappa are:

  4. To create by example a greater interest in the teaching profession, and
  5. To promote scholarship and altruism.

On October 27, 1951, Sigma Chapter for Franklin County, was chartered.
